What is an engagement ceremony in India, and what do brides wear?
An engagement is the formal agreement to marry, usually marked by a ring exchange and gifts between the two families. In North India it is called sagai, mangni or kurmai and often follows the roka (Utsavpedia). In the South it has its own names: nischitartham in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop wedding encyclopedia), nishchayathram in Tamil Nadu and nishchayam in Kerala. Practices differ by family, so follow your own customs first.

Should the engagement ring be real gold?
The ring you exchange is a family and personal choice, and many families choose real gold or diamond for that one piece. Tanishka Jewels does not sell real gold or diamond rings.
